Early history notes that the area was called 'village of Mother Red Cap' after the local public house, with Camden being referred to as a 'wayside hamlet at the fork where the roads to Hampstead and Highgate diverge.'

The early Camden Town was designed to attract middle classes, with the Camden Chapel on Camden Street specifically designed in a fancy neo-classical style to attract the 'right' type of resident.

The town's socio-economic complex and Camden property scene changed with the opening of the Regent's Canal in 1820, followed by the arrival of the London & Birmingham Railway in 1837. The industrial revolution prompted the working classes to arrive in droves, forcing a new wave of house building. Camden Town is a major junction on the Northern tube line, which is a popular plus point among home movers buying Camden Town property. As well as being served by the Underground, Camden Town has an overground station - Camden Road. This station provides links to Stratford, Clapham Junction and Richmond, among other destinations. The two main roads in Camden Town are the A503 (Camden Road) and the A400 (Camden High Street/Camden Street).
